Apres Munich

Matt Busby returned to his managerial position ready for 1958-1959 season. Matt Busby relied heavily on his youth policy instead of rushing into the transfer market, as one might of expected.

A number of youth team players found themselves playing alongside munich survivors Charlton, Gregg, Viollet, Scanlon and Foulkes. One signing Busby did make was Warren Bradley, an amateur winger signed from Bishop Auckland.

Busbys first major signing was Albert Quixall for a record 45,000 from Sheffield Wednesday. Quixall helped United to runners up spot in the 1958-1959 season. A remarkable achievement considering the recent tragedies.

For the next two seasons United finished seventh but in the 1961-1962 season United finished in 15th position. This was one of Uniteds worst finish in the league under Matt Busby. This time Matt Busby decided to use the transfer market to solve his problems. He bought David Herd from Arsenal for 32,000 and his greatest evers signing as manager, Denis Law for an incredible record fee of 115,000 from Torino.

The following season United finished in 19th position, just above the relagation zone. In that season Pat Crerand was also signed for 43,000 from Celtic. United may have been poor in the league but went onto the FA Cup Final where they met Leicester City. One goal from Law and two from Herd gave United a 3-1 win over Leicester and proved to be another turning point in the clubs history.
